Nine Network Australia desired consolidation of the news and current affairs departments into a state-of-the-art, world’s best practice news “Gateway” and studio facilities. Brewster Murray worked closely with the station manager and key client stakeholders to prepare detailed design, documentation and construction for each of the five sequential stages of the $10 million interior fitout. Careful design consideration relating to accommodation and technical equipment requirements was involved through close client consultation.

Brewster Murray was responsible for project managing the consultant design team and assisting the client with tender review, contract selection and construction administration. Brewster Murray also obtained development consent for each stage though preparation of consent drawings and documents and liaison with Willoughby City Council and private certifiers.

Conducting demolition and construction works within a 24-hour-seven-day operational television news environment required careful consideration as to temporary and long term staff accommodation and OH&S requirements. Works were sequenced to ensure minimal interruption and disruption of Nine Network activities while still allowing the builder to conduct work effectively.

The ‘Gateway’ is unique to Nine Network Australia, streaming in breaking news from around the world to keep Nine News at the forefront of world news presentation. It also provides a dramatic backdrop for the News Studio, as the news it brings in goes out to Australia.
